Meat quantity calculator

Start with a range that reflects the serving style, the cut form, appetite, another main, and whether leftovers are part of the plan

Plan the meat, keep the range honest

Build a more useful protein-buying range from the way you serve, the cut you buy, appetite, other mains, and leftovers

How to use the estimate

Choose the lower end when plenty of filling sides and another protein are on the menu. Choose the higher end for a brisket-, ribs-, or pulled-pork-focused gathering, larger appetites, or intentional leftovers. Bone-in pieces and ribs need a larger purchase weight than boneless meat because not every pound becomes a serving.

What it does not answer

This tool does not estimate cooked yield, cook time, holding requirements, or food-safety temperatures. Those depend on the cut, trimming, cooking method, equipment, and service plan.

A range is more honest than a single purchase number

Use the lower and upper ends to make a deliberate choice about abundance, leftovers, and budget. If you change from boneless meat to ribs or another bone-in cut, restart with the menu rather than treating the first range as a conversion chart.
