A wired meat probe measures the food, not the cooking chamber. Start by naming the reading that is wrong, then keep the controller family with the documented check.

Separate the food probe from the cooker sensor

Food probe

This is the removable wired lead placed in the meat. Its reading helps you judge the food and its placement. A loose plug, a damaged lead, or a misleading location in the food belong in this path.

Cooker sensor

This is the fixed sensor that helps the controller manage chamber heat. An implausible grill-temperature display, temperature swings, or a sensor error belongs in the cooker-sensor diagnostic instead.

If your model is not listed above, keep the exact model and owner support page with the symptom. Do not transfer an offset, self-test, port test, or replacement conclusion from another Traeger generation.

Describe the screen first

Note whether the probe is missing, fixed at an implausible value, or simply differs from another reading. Record whether it is the food reading or the cooker display before changing anything.

Confirm the simple connection and placement

With the correct model guidance in hand, make sure the food-probe plug is fully seated and the probe is in the relevant part of the food. A food probe touching bone or sitting in a thin edge is a placement question, not proof of a faulty grill.

Use the documented verification for your family

Traeger’s support paths use a controlled ice-water check for the food probe. For touchscreen models, compare the same test across both probes and both jacks when available. Keep the result with the model; it is more useful than a single cook reading.

If the documented check does not resolve the observation, take the model number, controller family, display wording, and result to Traeger support. This page does not establish a replacement lead, connector, or controller compatibility.
